"I know this has been covered in previous threads but I have been thinking about upgrading my 270 drive with a 290 power trim drive. In the 290, do they make a 2.15:1 ratio and is compatible and how much work is involved??"

"J.C.H., the 290 comes on 2.15

"J.C.H., the 290 comes on 2.15:1 ratio as well. The transom shield is larger, so you will have to replace it and cut a larger hole in the transom (no biggie).

If you are considering the conversion, keep your eyes open for a full package in good condition (engine, exhaust manifold&pipe, bellhousing, transom shield and outdrive). It would save you a lot of grief when compared with mixing and matching parts from your current system and the new one."

"If you are doing this extensi

"If you are doing this extensive of a conversion, I'd not do the 290, and go for the "C" drive (SP C, SP C1, DP C1, etc), of which had eliminated the reverse latch unit and SS cylinder swing bracket.
It is a much better choice unless you already have a smoking deal cooking on a 290."
