Yamaha 250 HPID rapid RPM increase

"Yamaha 250 HPID 2004, I experience a rapid increase in RPM at about 2500 RPM. RPM increase rapidly but boat slows.

Can anyone advise me of possible cause?"

Thanks Brian. I found a test for Spun Hub and you are correct. I purchased a new prop and am back in the water. I took a test runn plus some fishing rods and caught two nice rock fish. Great day for me. Thanks again.
