My 2006 5.7l 250 HP is idling

My 2006 5.7l 250 HP is idling at 1100-1200 rpm. I have read that it should be more like 600-650. I have also read: "A special procedure must be followed to adjust idle rpm. Consult your Authorized Mercury MerCruiser Dealer before attempting this procedure. " Can someone share the secret to adjusting the idle?

"MPI?? yes = ECU controlled id

"MPI?? yes = ECU controlled idle speed - check for bad sensor, disconnected sensor, or air leak."

"Is the distributor EST or Thu

"Is the distributor EST or Thunderbolt V?

The crux of the carb trick is to set the distributor to 'base' timing mode, so the ECU doesn't keep optimizing it. How you do it is driven by which distributor is installed."
