"While idling my port engine for some length of time as I ran seafoam thru the injectors to clean them I noticed my temp gauge go up to the normal point then drop down as the thermostat opened to what has been normal operating temp, then it dropped down another 5-10 degrees, kinda shuddered then went back up to where the thermostat normally opens then went back down,and then repeated the cycle through out the time I idled the engine. Never overheated, just bounced back an forth, faulty gauge? sender?"

My port engine does that nonsense now and then. Probably a sticky t-stat.

"Can a stat be picked up "over the counter" for a Crusader? FWC 8.2 Don't have an IR temp gauge, where can you get one and how much are they???"
 
Any good on-line marine parts

Any good on-line marine parts place (like THIS site) will have the t-stat. NAPA or Harbor Freight sells the IR temp gun.
