"I am presently looking at a 1986 41' convertable with twin DD 6V71 TI's rated at 465hp. The engines have slightly over 1200 hrs. Is there a general rule of thumb (engine hours) when I could expect to have to perform a major overhaul. No problems are reported, all maint. performed over the years. Thanks, joesig"

"If you run her hard, you could see 10k hours. She's probably used up half of that by sitting at the dock for 26 years minus (1200 hrs). Lots of 6-71 N/A's get that but w/turbo and being the relatively rare vee version, you might tread carefully."

RUN EM TIL THEY GET TIRED...TOO SMOKEY AND TOUGH START UP WILL TELL U WHEN COMPRESSION GETTING LOW....MOH STILL MUCH CHEAPER THAN BUYING NEW.....GENERALLY U SHOULD GET 2000 HRS OF RUNNING BETWEN MOH IF U KEEP HER AROUND 2000 RPMS AND PROPPED CORRECTLY...DONT RUN EM HOT....
