"replaced spark plugs, points

"replaced spark plugs, points condenser, coil, plug wires, carb kit, have triple checked all components, engine was running before work, now only pops out of carb, have set distributor to #1 cyl, followed manual instructions, only thing noticed was when points removed #1 was pointing forward, now with setting as per manual #1 on rotor is pointing to #8, when I return distributor to original position backfires through exaust, verified timing with timing light light shows timing mark at 8 degrees, and rotor points #1 on distributor, have gone over this for 2 days now, also checked resistor wire 2 ohms
any suggestions"

"yes firing order ok, whati ha

"yes firing order ok, whati have found since last post is timing mark is almost 90 degrees out, set #1 cyl at tdc checked timing mark, made new mark moved distributor around to rotor, got engine to fire up, next step was to check to see if harmonic damper was spun removed it, its ok, took timing chain cover off, timing marks on gears (nylon upper) line up chain is loose but not sloppy. that is where I am at now"

"If the motor was running befo

"If the motor was running before you did the work and you did not remove the dist, then it seems the issue would be the spark plug wiring order. If the cam marks line up, the timing mark should be close to "0".
The timing verified without running the motor has be stumped? Do it the old way. Bring #1 piston to TDC ,compression stroke. using something (wood dowel) in the spark plug hole to verify tdc of the piston, see where rotor is pointing, and use that as #1 starting point for the begining of the firing order
would you care to share the kind of motor your working on"
