"My 2006 BF30D runs rough at idle, great at high rpm. It has been getting progressively worse over the past couple of weeks. Bad plug(s)? Dirty carbs? Both?

Thanks!"

"It is probably one of your carbs but do a few check first..

Perform a cylinder drop test. With the engine running at idle, momentarily pull each spark plug wire and see if the engine changes speed.
If it does not change speed for a particular plug, listen for the ticking of the spark...you at least have spark, but the cylinder is not firing.

The next check would be to take out the spark plugs and check them. Flipflop them to see if the trouble follows the spark plug from the bad cylinder. If so, it is probably a bad plug.
Use only NGK DR7EA spark plugs

If not, then it would be wise to do a compression check to be sure the cylinder is not bad. If you do not have the gauge, then you might have to jump into the carbs. Be sure to use the Honda Shop manual for your model, since there are additional hoses and passages to deal with as compared to the older 30 HP.

Yes, it could be both...if the plugs do not look good and clean, change them."
