Prop got tangled in a line at

Prop got tangled in a line at full throttle and shredded the small beveled gear in the lower unit. Have the thing apart and am wondering how to remove the beveled gear from the input shaft - looks pressed in but don't want to force it if unnecessary. Thanks
 
Do you mean the pinion gear fr

Do you mean the pinion gear from the drive shaft or the forward or reverse gear from the prop shaft?

"The pinion gear from the prop shaft. Worked the gear off and just replaced it tonight. The gear selector rod doesn't seem to have a fixed position - not sure I put it back in correctly. It moves as I remember it, so I think it is good One sure way to find out - I'll fire it up tomorrow night."
