"I have 1983 Crusader 454/350s

"I have 1983 Crusader 454/350s. One tach floats until the engine reaches about 2500 RPMs, then it steadies and reads correctly, that is, it matches the other tach. This has been an intermittent problem over the years and usually corrects itself but it's very annoying.

Any ideas?"

"Rocco, more than likely the tach is bad if it is the original one. Try switching the tachs to see if the problem remains. If not than it is the tach. If so then you need to check your wires and connections from your guage to the variuos points (i.e power, ground, pick-up). Might be a slight short or corrosion somewhere along the way."

With engine off, try moving the 4, 6, 8 selector switch on the back of the tach (if so equipped) through all positions several times and then stop at the correct setting. It could be a dirty contact inside the tach.
