Just curious at how most of you are running your 318's?

For example:
1977 31' Silverton Sedan w/twin 318s.
Our normal 'cruise' is 2000 rpms (8-10 knots).

I own a 1979 26' Penn Yan

I own a 1979 26' Penn Yan (7000+lbs) that doesn't fully plane until 3600 rpms. I run twin 318's at 3000 to 3400 which is 18 to 24 mph. I can actual run one engine at 2000 rpm and get 6 to 8 mph. (have had starboard engine troubles of late)

"I run a 32 foot Marinette wit

"I run a 32 foot Marinette with 360s (close enough). At 2,500 rpms we get 20 mph and burn 8 GPH per engine.

Jeff

PS: It'll hold a plane down to 2,000 rpms, even with a load of passengers aboard. Love my boat!

"I treat mine gingerly. I have a Trojan F-26 Express Cruiser with a single 318. I'm on a plane at about 2500-2600 RPM / 10-11 knots depending on the fuel and passenger load. The secondaries kick in at 3200 RPM and I rarely open them up. For the season, I average about 5 GPH. With a 10 foot beam, she ain't a speedboat, but I used to own a sail boat so from my perspective, its fast enough."

"Ah, sailing! Screaming along

"Ah, sailing! Screaming along at 6 mph!

Russel: The boat is listed at 10,500 lbs. but it's closer to 14,000 with all the junk we have aboard.

Jeff"

"1971 Trojan 31 Sea Raider...twin 318's usual cruise around 2700-2800 rpm. gives me around 25 to 27 mph (gps)..and about 15 or 16 gph (flow scan)..half tanks, full water tank ( bow mounted)2 adults , 2 over weight Jack Russels & a 24 of beer"

"Peter,
I am not getting that

"Peter,
I am not getting that well out of my '74 Trojan F-32. Do you know what props you have it? I get about 22 mph at 2800 RPM. Maybe it's the beer I am missing?"

It could also be the state of tune. Better to reverify the motors are running properly before messing with props.

Jeff

"Jason,
My props are 13

"Jason,
My props are 13 x14 3 blades, on 1 inch shafts out of 1:1 velvet drives, I always make sure my water tank is full before leaving the dock, I also have huge tabs ( 36 x 12), the boat seems to run best with those set at about 10 degrees. I agree with Jeff, get the state of tune just right before looking elsewhere ,"
