"Could be your ESA (electronic shift assist) is not working. Could be a bad shift cable. You can test the ESA be lifting up on the shift interrupt switch while the engine is running at idle. The engine should stumble, but should not die. When in the water, this temporary interruption in the ignition takes torque off the drive and therfore allows easy shifting out of gear. Also, check your idle speed. Should be around 650 RPMs in gear. (in the water)"
