"I installed a new stator and

"I installed a new stator and voltage regulator on a 1993 force 150.
It starts up right away but doesnt show that it's charging for about a minute, and then shows that its charging and the tach starts to work.
Is this normal? All connections have been cleaned including the battery.

"That doesn't sound normal at all, but can't think of anything that would cause that unless you have a bad ground somewhere.

Not necessarily a wire, but a bit of grease that got in one of the mounting holes when you fastened down either the stator or regulator or their ground leads (if applicable)."
 
the tach works off of the volt

the tach works off of the voltage regulator/rectifier....the wire comes from the stator....assure that wire ( was a purple wire on my 89 85hp ) is intact and has proper resistance. somewhere to start anyway
