"On my starboard engine i lost power thru the drive after about 30 min running at 2400 r.p.m. The gear box was hot - very hot. The Volvo engineer said that the gear box oil had lost it's velocity and needed replacement. This was done and on trial for 10 min the drive worked as it should. However, after 30 min. all power thru the drive was lost exactly as before. Does anyone know the reason?"

"Hi John,
Without knowing which gbox you have fitted, i have lised a summary of possible causes.
1.coolant flow thru gbox cooler-dirty.
2.Selector not going fully into position.
3.prop--load ie,entanged.
4.Relief valve by pass stuck.
5.Slipping clutches most likely given run time,-fit gauge monitor system.
6.In correct oil--type-viscosity.
Once oil
has been veeery hot it looses it antifoam, viscosity and lubrication propertys it also becomes darker in colour and smells like a big girl..
Cheers,
Tassie.."
