Speedometer not reading

"I have a 03 Yamaha 150, I went through the river,I quess something plastic blocked my intake and I was able to clear it, I noticed after the speedometer gauge stock on zero and was not reading mph, could there be something stock, and enabling it from reading it, how do you correct this?"

"Look at the lower unit inlet

"Look at the lower unit inlet and make sure it is clear of trash, wood, ect. It is a very small hole just above the lower unit housing in the front section. If it is plugged you really need to look close to see the inlet, very small. I always keep a welders tip cleaner in my boat just for this issue. Be careful not to inlarge the inlet hole and do not stick anything to deep into the hole or you could cause additional problems.
The inlet for your engine is critical but the small inlet for the speed is just that and no more. Just for the record, I do not use mine any more for speed readings, just the GPS on the console."
