Anyone tell me the proper proc

Anyone tell me the proper procedure for timing thunderbolt IV system installed on 1986 260hp straight inboards. The bell housings have rubber plugs installed and if removed they reveal pointers. should i use these or the marks on front cover. also no purple wire to set into base timing mode like the newer models. how do you do so?? Thanx Dan
 
Hook timing light to number on

Hook timing light to number one spark plug at the plug or as close as possible.

point the light at the timing pointer (located on the timing chain cover) and harmonic balancer (front of engine).

Set to 8 degrees before top dead center.

You are done.

No additional things need to be done on a TB IV
