I ran my 85HP L drive for the first time this year the other day. I noticed when I was coming back into neutral it was hard to shift. When I got it in neutral the engine revved really high. I turned off the engine and restarted it and the revs where normal.

Any help you be appreciated.

Sounds like a broken throttle

Sounds like a broken throttle cable jamming the neutral throttle stop and dragging on the shifter.

Grab the throttle cable end and see if it will move without moving the control box.

I also posted this on the Bayl

I also posted this on the Bayliner owner forum and this is the respone I got

"I had a similar problem on a 85 hp force outboard. The timing advance linkage which is located under the flywheel was rusted causing the timing to remain advanced. It would reset itself when the motor was stopped & re-started"

Could it possibly be this??
