More gear oil in bilge

"I have gear oil in the bilge

"I have gear oil in the bilge and very little in the reservoir. Seems to be coming from around the res. cap. Does this make sense? I have a seal on the res bottle, and a "flapper" seal in the cap. Should there be a ring seal inside the cap also? Is this a common problem?

"Had it happen on one of my boats, replaced the cap and no more leak. but check to make sure there isn't a crack in the bottle somewhere"
