"guy's i noticed a soft gear grind noise coming from my dist.i have been having idle issues.the tack is also irratic.what do i do next.350,260 h.p.thunderbolt,1987.thank's."

eratic tach should porduce a eratic engine Most you can do is pull it and inspect the drive gear.
 
The tach could just be dying.

The tach could just be dying. I had one that would jump all over the RPM range; tap on its face and it would dance all over.
