We got a couple of brand new Yamaha 350's here at work and they are already making oil (with-in the first 60 hours)..Do you think they will stop after they are broken in? and How should they be broken in....because the manual say's slowly!

a term used when a motor is getting gas in the crank case making the oil level rise. A chronic problem with Yamaha 4 Strokes....Mostly blamed on unseated rings

can you actually smell gas in

can you actually smell gas in the crankcase oil? could it be caused by lack of proper crankcase ventilation? maybe you better go ahead and change the oil and filters before the gas dilutes your oil and ruins lower end bearings? can the piston ring seals be that bad in a new engine even if it's not broken in? what do the Yamaha guys say about this..better get them involved in case you have a major engine problem that could be a warrany item. that's a fine and expensive pair of motors to be having these issues. good luck!

The jury is still out. It threw a rod at 30 hours (Yamaha replaced powerhead) and both motors are "making oil" Yamaha tech is trying to pinpoint the problem.

"Just to weigh in my 2 cents worth. Have a couple 2001 115hp 4 stokes that did the same thing. Took it back to the dealer and he said to run the sh**t out of it for an hour. Rings seated, oil is fine, and have over 600 hours on them now. Just a thought."
