"I have a Tohatsu 3.5 HP, 4 stroke outboard.

Is there any difference between using a good quality auto oil like Pennzoil 10w-30 or a good quality Marine oil like Pennzoil Marine 10w-30 other then the price of the oil?"

The "correct" answer i

The "correct" answer is that you should use an Fc-w rated oil because it's designed for the marine environment. The practical answer is that it shouldn't matter in most situations. Just don't use synthetic oil.

"Thanks, that what I thought. I reread the manual. On page 5 is said:

"Use only oils that carry the API rating of SF to SM. ... You can also use NMMA FCW certified 4-stoke outboard oil"

I think API is auto oil rating and FC is marine oil so they also don't seem to care.

BUT
On page 27, it said:
"Use FCW 10w-30/40 of rated SF to SM."

My auto oil is rated SM but not FCW, and the marine oil is rated FCW, not SM.
Maybe it got changed during translation?"
