"Hello,
This is my first boat with 2 stroke diesels so I am very new to this. My boat is an 89 with 671TI's that have 1000 hours on them. The boat sat in storage for the past 3 years prior to my purchasing it.
The boat runs pretty well but seems to smoke quite a bit. At start up, it is very bad but will ease somewhat after about 5 min or so. I do not notice any smoke at cruise.
Is so much smoke at start normal? Thanks for any help you are able to give."

"They all seem to smoke. Some people find that heaters help to reduce start-up smoke.
I use 2 x 150 watt pad type heaters on my oil pans. I turn them on the day before and the smoke is a lot better. You can also use coolant heaters. they are more efficient, but more complex."
