Any good marine store sells anodes. You put on enough to get the correct readings n a meter. A good marina shpuld have a meter to use for testing.

A well made boat has grounding wires running to any metal object in contact with the water. A slab of anode mounted on the transom is wired to the grounding system to "take the hit" instead of the metal parts.
