"i would contact the company that made the boat, give them the model number etc. and they should be able to give you all that info, maybe even a new plate with the info. BUT i would do that before going out looking at motors"

"Haven't got a listing for the max horsepower on that model, but you can use the coast guard calculation.

Length x max transom width x 2 subtract 90 (their numbers, not mine)

So your model is 18 x 7.166 (7'2") x 2 - 90 = 167 (rounded up to 170).

That gives you the Max horsepower in "calm water".

Based on that you should be fine with a 125 or 150."

I have a tilt and trim question. I have a 17ft aluminum bass boat with a 75hp motor that I can't seem to get the nose of the boat up. when I try to raise the nose up alittle the boat starts to cavitate. Do i need to put a jack plate??

To get the nose down the trim should be as close to the transom as you can. Then move the pin out one notch at a time till you get something you can live with. If the first notch will not do it you have a hull problem. Take a straight edge and lay on the keel. then at 6" to each side and see if the hull is flat or bulging or cupped. Fix that and your problems are solved (we hope).

"i know this is a silly question, but i don't know if i don't ask. is this the original motor and hull? have you done any remodeling, you know moved things or added things... battery, gas tank, bait tank etc.

is this boat new to you and always done this?"
