Running sea water pump dry

"Hi everyone,
My 1976 silvert

"Hi everyone,
My 1976 silverton Chrysler LM318 is sitting in dry dock. My position in the boat yard is not near any water. I have dual cooling systems. Antifreeze and sea water. Is it damaging to the sea water pump or anything else if I try and start my engine? I dont plan on revving it high or running for a long time. I just need to see if she turns over and will idle but am afraid this might damage the pump. Any thoughts??"

"as long as you take the belt

"as long as you take the belt off that drives the pump, go ahead. doing it with the belt on will kill the impellers in about 20 seconds"

"Two ways: Pull the pump apart

"Two ways: Pull the pump apart and see, or wait until it's splashed and see if water comes out the exhaust. I'd vote for the latter unless the boat has been sitting a long time.

Jeff"
