What kind of tach can I use on a '93 Force 40 hp? How does it connect? I have a purple and an orange wire in the harness that are not connected.I want to change props for more speed but don't want to over rev.
Current prop says 11 1/2. any recomends for change?

"William, you need to connect the tach before you can fit the correct prop - need to know the rpms at wide open to determine the correct pitch.

The purple is the "signal" that will feed the tach.

You need to find a tach that has a setting for 12 poles - check with any marine place."

"What tach do you recomend? Cabella's shows one for Force. <Tachometer (7,000 rpm tach fits all electric start outboards except pre-92' Force).>
By Teleflex. This work?"

"Personally, I stick to the two biggies in the industry when it comes to gauges - either Teleflex or Faria.

The one you mention would be a good choice."
