"Question: How can I tell if I damaged my aftercooler? Thanks for your help in advance.

I live in Cincinnati where it froze this year and have a AQAD41 volvo penta diesel engine. When winterizing last year, I missed the drain plug on the after cooler and it set with water in it over the winter. I found the after cooler to be partially full of water.

Do I dare start it? Thanks Rick"

There is a weep hole at the base of the aftercooler body that allows fluids to pass if the core is damaged. Make sure there is water inside the cooler then see if it leaks.

"If You have a leaking aftercooler and try to start the engine, You will most likely end up water locked.
Remove the complete unit and pressure test."
