" I have a 14 ft. Boston Whaler type that needs a motor. I don't know what horse to use. Is a 15hp sufficient or should I go bigger. This is for ocean fishing, probably 1 mile out.

" I would have at least a 15hp on a 14ft Boston Whaler, especially if you are going ocean fishing, but would prefer a 25hp motor or larger for safety sake. "
 
my 13 ft whaler had a 40 hp s

my 13 ft whaler had a 40 hp suxuki on it it was quick yet stable . i would think you would want to go with maybe a 30-40 hp range
