"I'm not a amature, and consider my self fairly good at automotive engine work.
well my new to me 99 3.0 I/O 181Cu
motor skips pretty bad till warmed up then is just a little rough..
but not as smooth as it should be..
I've changed the cap,rotor,wires,plugs,
fuel seems pretty good, compression is up there on all cylinders say 150psi or so,,
seems like electrical skip.
i can't see it being the pick-up or electronic
module..any suggestions???"

"Connect an inductive pick-up

"Connect an inductive pick-up timing light to the plug wires, one at a time, near the plug. Watch the light for a steady pulse. If the light is steady on each cylinder while the skipping is occuring, providing the plugs are all good, it is not an ignition problem. Look for the carb and intake system. Pay special attention to the choke assy. Look for air leaks caused by a bad vacuum hose or a loose carb. Also, check for smoke when starting. You could have leaky valve seals which could be slowly dripping oil into the cylinders while sitting, then burning off when the motor starts. This would be verified by the smoke upon start-up.

Good luck,
Rick"
