360 for a 318

1973 24 foot glass lyman cruis

1973 24 foot glass lyman cruises at 20 mph. The 318 has good compression etc. Would like 8 to 10 more mph. some say small block chevy others chrysler 360. what is horse power range on the 360? Your thoughts?

"Mike, Sounds like a problem I had with a 26foot glass boat, which would not get the best speed. Before you spend the money, and if the 318 is in good condition, and you have a standard 3 blade prop, change the prop to a 4 blade and reduce the pith by 2. eg if you have 3 blade 15 x 17, change to a 4 blade 15 x 15. You can possibly get a loan prop to try it out, and if successful will be a bucket less money you have to spend."
