"I checked my compression on my 84 mer 140.the 1,2,3,cyl 100psi 4 was 120.was wondering what was wrong. because i had just put a reman head on.so i pulled the head off again to see that there is carbon on the head gasket between the 1,2,3 cly mainly between 2,3.all so the value on 1 cly was brown.does this mean there is water geting in.also i bought the head gasket from napa could this be my problem."

Looks as if the head or the block deck is not square / flat whatever the gasket is not sealing.

Check the surface of the head & block with a straight piece of square stock. If the bar is not flat with no air gap on either surface machine work is needed.
