Shift shaft arm position

Hi guys ....on the shift shaft

Hi guys ....on the shift shaft arm theres a short arm and a longer arm at the top ..i dont get what the seloc book means in the placement description...does the short arm face the transom or to the rear the unit...feeling around it seems like there is some sort of guide for the arm to seat between in the up position with lower unit installed ...so thats the way i put it back in ...but now i get a little clicking before it goes into gear ..any ideas ..thanks
 
Adjust the lower shift cable l

Adjust the lower shift cable linkage until clicking stops.

By the way every lower end clicks if you put them into gear to slow. Try one quick motion when shifting.
