What is the best and safest way to clean an inboard/outboard engine?
I was thinking about spraying CRC all over the engine. I used to do that with my outboard. Is that OK and would this be enough?
Thanks

"What I have done in the past

"What I have done in the past is run the engine to warm it up, then stop it and cover all the electrics (distributor, alternator, etc) with plastic bags, spray the engine with an engine cleaning product, let the product do its job (the spray cans tell how long it has to remain in the engine before rinsing) and use a pressure washer at a reasonable distance to rinse the product (or a garden hose with hot water and a nozzle). Afterwards, when the engine is dry and I have fixed all leaks, I spray the whole engine, manifolds, etc with Fluid Film, or Corrosion Guard from Quicksilver. You can also use CRC, but that oil is too thin, and what you want is a light coat of thick oil that sticks to the engine to protect it from moisture and salt."
