"I have a 1968 LM 318 in a 196

"I have a 1968 LM 318 in a 1969 Correct Craft Ski Nautique 17.5 foot. I really like the engine and the boat. My question is what should my rpm's be at WOT. I rarely run it that fast, but noticed that when I do it climbs above 5000. I have an Acme 540 3 blade 13 x 12, rh rotation. BW 1:1 transmission.
Thanks, and thanks for this board-it's helping me get to know my good ol' boat."

"Here are some figures for hp

"Here are some figures for hp @max RPM from the Chysler owner's manual that came with the LM318 in my 1975 Trojan F26:
Chrysler 195 LM318AC 195 hp at 4200 RPM sterndrive 1.75:1
Chrysler 225 LM318B 225 hp at 4000 RPM BW velvet drive 1:1
Chrysler 240 LM318BC 240 hp at 4600 RPM sterndrive 1.4:1

Sounds like 5,000 RPM is a bit hot for this engine. Maybe some more prop pitch is called for.
Good Luck,
Chuck"

"I have been fighting this pro

"I have been fighting this problem for over two saeason now. Chrysler 318M Drifter)(Re built Carb, Plugs, Coil, points and condenser have been replaced.
At the dock the engine idles 600 rpms for as long as it is left on-no preoblems with stalling. Taking the boat out for the ist 1.5 (35 minutes) miles you can test the Idle speed by droping back to nuetral then back to Fwd or Reverse remains at 600 rpm. As you continue then try to dock the boat (3 miles plus) the rpms drop to 500 rpms and I stall. Temperature of engine cooling 130 max. I have cranked up the
trottle Idle screw back to 600 rpm with no help.
I cant tell you how many times I have stalled out coming into the dock. I am lost on this one-Help"
