They are similar--unless you mean an automotive carb (which is a no-no).

The mercarb and the 2gc Rochester are essentially the same for the 140. The only trouble is if the 2gc you have is the small bolt pattern. If so a Mercarb won't fit.

this is for a boat I did notice the bases of the two were different. I have amid 80s 120 merc with the rochester I should just have to switch exh.manifolds is this correct ?

Mr. Gasket used to sell an ada

Mr. Gasket used to sell an adapter to fit either carb to a manifold. The single mixture screw is used to save $$$ since the air and fuel all go to the same place. Either can be used if they are MARINE carbs.
