"How hard is it to replace the pull rope? Its on a Sea King 5hp 1953. When I remove the nut is the spring going to unwind? I have got some great info from this board, thanks everyone.

"I assume that the starter is over top of the flywheel? If so, carefuly remove the starter handle and while holding onto the pulley, allow the spring to withdraw the cord first.

Attempting to dismantle the starter with a wound spring can be quite dangerous."
