"My 1984 Invader bow rider wit

"My 1984 Invader bow rider with Volvo AQ125A / 270 stern drive has about 30 degrees of play in the steering wheel. With the drive down, I can rock the lower unit back and forth several inches. Am I correct that the problem is with the bushings in the steering yoke and steering lever. If so, can they be replaced without removing the stern drive? Thanks in advance."

"If you have cable steering, the play you describe is pretty normal. With hydraulic steering, that would be a different matter.

In any case, make sure that the steering arm does not have play in the steering yoke spline; for that, the bolt across the steering arm must be very tight."
