I need a 2001 5.7 EFI replacem

I need a 2001 5.7 EFI replacement. I have the chance to purchase a used 2003 5.7 EFI. It was installed new in 2004 and used for 2hrs.The boat / engine was winterized in 2004 and never used again.Would it be worth a chance or should I walk away from it. What should I be looking for? Thanks

The more inspection you can do the better your decision will be.

Very basically is a compression check, you can get an oil sample, run the engine (even out of the boat) check closely for cracks and rust on the block, heads and manifolds. light surface rust isn't so much a concern but cracks will almost always have rust on them.

There are some really great deals right now from both Mercruiser and Crusader (they even have a black version) on replacement engines. Don't buy used without looking hard at new.
