"I just replaced my old mercru

"I just replaced my old mercruiser engine 3.7 cracked block with a used 3.7 engine. My question is the starter on the newer one, there is no soleniod build onto the starter itself it's just the starter,can i just use the slave soleniod to start the boat or do i need to add a soleniod to that starter.Also on the old engine the starter doesn't look the same is it because it's a gm not a ford starter. Thanks."

you may be better off if you still have the old motor to swap over the parts for the starter to the new engine so all your wires will hook back up as before

And while you have the old starter out you might take it in and have it freshened up at an electrical rebuilder.
