I have a 1982 45hp Chrysler boat motor that I want to sell. I know next to nothing about boat motors. The original owner said that the motor ran great. We wanted the boat not the motor that came with it. Time to sell the motor but I don't know how much to sell it for. What would be a starting point to place this motor on Craigslist?

Thanks in advance for your response...Howie

"Howie,
really difficult to put an honest value to this motor.

"Previous" owner said it ran - so you have not confirmed that?

It's a Chrylser - bankrupt, no parts (in some cases), no dealers etc.

Older style ignition with points.

Horsepower is not a bad size (40-50 still kinda popular).

If it's a short shaft it will have a very limited application, although there is a market there among home boat builders - just quite small.

Better if it's a long shaft - wider possible applications.

If it's a long shaft, running well I would think maybe in the 500 dollar range, but personally, I wouldn't touch a Chrysler when there are other mfg's out there, still in business and still providing parts support for their motors.

Alternately, list it on Ebay - then the market will determine the value."
