453 exhaust question

We have purchased an ex-trolle

We have purchased an ex-troller with a 4-53 Detroit Diesel. Keel cooled and probably a lot of hours. The muffler was rusted out so we replaced it. The existing stack is 3.5" and we reduced it to 3" to fit the truck muffler. Now the engine heat gauge redlines in about 5 minutes. Would the restriction in the muffler cause the engine to overheat?

"hey guys i just got done installing 671 ti motors in my 34 striker, they are the iow profile design, now the problem i cant get to the front pullys for the alternators, do they make a gear driven alternator for 671s i looked on the internet and only came up with ones for v series please help jeff"
