"guys,put new carb on 350chev

"guys,put new carb on 350chev 4-bbl quadrajet,i have it running,but when i back the idle screw off to get 650 rpm,it dies.i also noticed that the idle screw is not touching the small plate that it engages with.advice,thanks."

the idle speed screw should have contact with the tang on the primary throttle lever. If you have it backed out w/o any contact and the rpm is too high, you have an air leak in the system somewhere. Perform the adjustments Bondo suggests and then set the idle speed (check timing afterwards). If the initial timing is off, it can mess with the idle speed, too. If the idle speed remains high after the adjustments, find that leak."
