"I have a pair of DAMD 40B's. One engine will not develope full RPM. It will max out at about 3,100 RPM when it should wind to 3,600. It blows white smoke at around 2,500 RPM and up under load. It vibrates more than the other. I checked intake manifold pressure and one is 16psi and the other is 17psi at full throttle under load. The book indicates 14psi is the minnimum. These are 2300 hour engines. Low RPM seems like fuel delivery but the white smoke is more like not enough air or unburned fuel. What do you recomend for the next diagnosis check?"

"Let us start with the smoke:

"Let us start with the smoke:
White = Lack of cooling water in exhaust
Black = Unburnt diesel
Blue = Oil (engine)
White smoke on Your engine may indicate a partly blocked exhaust outlet, impeller, air leak at hose connector at drive. If so the aircooler may be to hot not cooling down the intake air, however that would normally give black smoke, this as well as turbo pressure failure. The vibration part is the one worrying, I would check for a defective injector. You may have a cylinder 'out'."
