1989 Force 50hp Runs But wont shift HELP

My motor starts and runs good.

My motor starts and runs good. As soon as I try to shift into reverse neutral or forward it cuts out I don't know why? I start it let it warm up in the warm up gear position then try to pop it in reverse and it dies. Does anyone know what it might be?

Spark cut out? Im not familiar with outboard engine terms im learning as I go so I need you to dumb it down for me. lol How do I fix this problem you speak of and how would I know that that is whats wrong? Thnx!

I have the same problem with m

I have the same problem with my Force 120 and I'm also new to boats. My first one in fact. Mine runs like a charm when I can get her to shift. But that doesn't always happen. Most of the times when I go from neutral to forward it starts making a weird rattle sound and then cuts out. Help please!

Spark cut out???? in an outboard? well any way try and raise the idle speed and adjust the idle mixture.
