1977 85hp Evin.
Motor given to me.I was told engine overheats.
Compression check shows 3 [email protected] 4 60psi.Take off cylinder heads and remove 7Tbl spoons of caked
sand.Remove large exhaust plate -exhaust ash on plate at 3 areas but steam cleaned at cyl.4
Can see rings on pistons through exhaust holes.
All rings push in and back out when I press on
them with a screwdriver.All but cyl 4.Trying
different spray cleaners to free rings.
Next took off intake cover to 4 to spray rings
and found what looks like fine sand on inside of cover yet piston and walls look fine.
Hoping sand removal,unsticking rings and new
head gasket will fix the engine but have a
sinking feeling i'm dealing with a cracked block.
Is there a way to check the block for cracks with
it on the boat?"
