57 mercruiser inboard overheating HELP

"My boat has sat for about 6 m

"My boat has sat for about 6 months.I went to start it and it started overheating I took out thermostat and it still overheated, I then checked water pump and it wasn't leaking and spun fine, Is there another water pump that brings in fresh water up to the block? I am also looking for a download for a maintnance manual. Can anyone help?"

"This may sound stupid,but do you have a water inlet gate valve, connected to a strainer, check that the gate valve is open. (I am assuming that the boat is still in the water.)"
 
The pump on the front of the e

The pump on the front of the engine is just a circulating pump. There should be another belt driven pump down low on the starboard side. That pump has a rubber impeller that requires regular service.
