how hard depends on your skill

how hard depends on your skill and ability. and maybe flexibility.

remove all existing drive components.

Fill hole in transom whether that's plywood and fiberglass or welding in steel not sure what a Gibson hull is made of.

Recut mercruiser cutout and install complete 4.3 powertrain.

The engine is available as a reman. from Jasper Engines in SW Indiana or they will reman. yours. Don't know about the OD.
