"I've been informed that there are both supercharged and turbocharged versions of the Detroit 671......If this is so, ...How do the two setups compare...Both great? 1 better?

"All 2 stoke Detroit diesels have a supercharger. It's part of the design. Even ones designated as 6-71N (normally aspirated) have one. A 6-71T has the supercharger and a turbocharger. The TA adds an aftercooler. The TIB has a supercharger (like all the rest), and has a turbocharger, an intercooler, and a bypass valve to let air get passed the (small) supercharger when the (big) turbo is fully spooled up."

Some may say that the detroits have a blower instead of a supercharger becuase it's intent is to simply move gasses rather than pressurizing them, but that's just splitting hairs. It's the same chunk of metal regardless of what you call it. I don't know squat about 4 cycle diesels, but I'm pretty up on 2 cycle Detroits."
