i have a 140 3.0 4cyl

the other day i was cruising around and i noticed that the air filter had a bit of smoke coming from it so I removed it and it was wet with fuel. The carb also began to "tick" when accelerating. I did also notice a loss of power and rough idling. any ideas?

"Leaking fuel pump diaphram. THe line to the "air filter" (flame arrestor) is there to convey any leaking fuel to the motor instead of the bilge--very bad. THis might not be the reason for your problem, but make damn sure it isn't before running the motor!

"i have run the motor with this problem (not much but I have. last night I sprayed a can of carb cleaner in the carb which helped smooth the idle, but did not help this ticking sound. When the rpm's are up, this noise goes away...it's only when the RPM's are rising when accelerating.
