"I would like to rebuild my trim rams on an alpha 1 outdrive. Are there any tools to dissasemble the rams and is it very hard to do, as in needed a press or anything."

The 1" piston models can be taken apart with channel-lock pliers,...

The 1, 1/4" flavor which requires a spanner wrench..."
 
I just rebuilt my Alpha 1 rams

I just rebuilt my Alpha 1 rams. Very easy with a OEM Merc service manual. You have to have a spanner wrench made for taking the end caps off. I made my wrench in a machine shop I have access to. No other special tools needed. Mercstuff.com has a wrench for $65.00. A Merc wrench is about three times that. Shock piston bolt torques to 20 ft.lbs with locktite and end cap torques to 40 ft. lbs with merc 2-4-C grease.
