"Just installed a new water pump in my 1997 Force 75HP. When installing the lower unit I put the Driveshaft Spline Seal #25819427 and it's the driveshaft seal retainer #F749271 back on the way I found them (retainer on top and seal on bottom. After looking at a parts exploded diagram it appears I should have put the retainer on the bottom and the seal on the top.
I don't relish the idea of taking the lower unit off to install the seal and retainer as shown on the diagram but will. Do they serve the same function as the O-Ring on OMC motors, keeps water out of the powerhead splines?
